The lawn bowls community in Asheville is saddened by the death of Fred McKenzie, an active member of the Asheville Lawn Bowling Club. At the time of his death, Fred was club vice president and tournament chair. In 2016 Fred was club pairs champion and second in singles. We remember Fred and his passion for the game and all that he did to promote lawn bowls in Asheville.
Fred died while on vacation in Germany on October 11, 2018. A plaque will be installed on one of the benches at the new lawn bowling green in Carrier Park in honor of Fred for his many contributions to the club.
