The Spring Fling tournament in Pinehurst May 17-19 has been the only tournament in the Southeast in over a year due to Covid. With vaccinations and reopening of outdoor activities, lawn bowlers were ready for a tournament that drew 32 players, mostly from Florida and North Carolina. Asheville fielded a team captained by Terry Reincke with teammates Kirk Denny, Roger Parkin and Ted Tragard, who all performed well. Steve Nelson also captained a team of three others from Clearwater and Pinehurst. From Terry: “Pinehurst results. Roger bowled for the singles championship Wed, coming within inches of forcing extra ends. Lost by 1 point to Martha from Pinehurst. Congratulations to Roger. Kirk and Terry bowled well together against strong competition on the "slow" grass surface. Conditions were perfect. We did beat Sandy Wall and Bud Ruddici, two very good bowlers. Ted Tragard, who joined us from Pittsburgh gained valuable experience.” A full article on the tournament can be viewed at: http://sedlawnbowls.org/2021-sed-spring-fling-tournament/
